KSA Pays Courtesy Call to the Governor of Vihiga County

Today morning 3 August 2023, DG KSA Brig. Hillary Kipkosgey paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Vihiga, H.E Wilbur Otichillo.

As a pioneer of the Geospatial Technology in the country, the Governor was very pleased to meet with the delegation from KSA and share the progress on the use of geospatial data for decision making in Vihiga County.

H.E The Governor reiterated on the need for the counties to embrace and utilize space derived data. He noted that GIS labs for counties was key for data analysis and essential for leveraging on tools for decision support and assist counties in planning for socio-economic growth.  

He informed the KSA team that a total of 34 counties had so far visited Vihiga county to learn about their geospatial department and visit their GIS lab.

The DG KSA Brig. Kipkosgey noted that KSA was keen to promote the uptake and utilization of space technology in decision support across Government institutions. He commended the Governor for the great job he was doing by leveraging on satellite data. 

He later thanked the Governor for hosting him and the team. He assured the Governor that KSA was ready to partner and collaborate with the county. Additionally, he noted that it would be important to explore how the implementation of GIS in Vihiga County could be scaled to other counties.

The DG was accompanied by Ag Director, Space Sector & Technology Development Mr. Charles Mwangi and technical officers.
