Defence Principal Secretary Mr. Patrick Mariru, on 5 June 2023, visited Luigi Broglio-Malindi Space Centre on a familiarisation tour. The Space centre is jointly managed by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Kenya Space Agency (KSA). The facility is used for telemetry, tracking and command services for launch vehicles and data acquisition from satellites.
In his remarks, the PS Defence, Mr Patrick Mariru appreciated the partnership with Italy and reaffirmed the Government of Kenya’s commitment to enhance the collaboration between the two countries. He further highlighted the importance of the facility to global space operations as it is located near the equator.
The PS toured both the land and sea segments accompanied by the Ag. Director-General Kenya Space Agency, Brigadier Hillary Kipkosgey, and senior management from KSA and ASI.
