On 5 March 2025, the Director General of the Kenya Space Agency (KSA), Brig Hillary Kipkosgey hosted a delegation from the RIIS - Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability, led by CEO Mr. Kuda Mukova CA(SA), at KSA headquarters in Nairobi.
This engagement aimed to realign the 2025 work plan while further strengthening the partnership between KSA and RIIS, which has been instrumental in fostering Kenya’s space innovation ecosystem for over half a decade.
During the meeting, the team officially launched Phase 3 of the UK FCDO-funded, The RISA Fund-supported initiative, marking another milestone in advancing Kenya’s space sector. The initiative has already achieved significant progress:
✅ Phase 1: Conducted an ecosystem maturity assessment, stakeholder mapping, and developed a comprehensive space ecosystem roadmap.
✅ Phase 2: Implemented key interventions from the roadmap to enhance the sector’s growth.
✅ Phase 3: We will build on these efforts to further develop Kenya’s space ecosystem.
Another topic that featured in the discussion was the Africa Earth Observation Challenge (AEOC) 2025 and its alignment with the upcoming Space Ecosystem Innovation Hub. The AEOC aims to foster an entrepreneurial culture and drive innovation in the space sector, leveraging Earth observation technologies to support socio-economic development across the continent. The Kenya Space Agency is excited to continue working with RIIS and other partners to drive innovation and position Kenya as a leading player in the global space arena
