Today, The Director General of the Defence National Security Industries (DNSI), Major General Faustino Lobaly EBS, paid an official visit to the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) Headquarters. He was received by the Director General of KSA, Brigadier Hillary Kipkosgey, who met and briefed him of KSA operations and offered a guided tour. During the visit, the DG DNSI was appraised on the core functions, ongoing programs, and strategic vision and mission of the Kenya Space Agency. The DG KSA took him through a detailed overview of the Agency’s operations, spanning across various departments including:
Earth Observation (EO)
Space Systems Engineering
Space Situational Awareness (SSA)
Space Science and Astronomy
Space Education and Awareness
In his remarks, Major General Lobaly commended the Kenya Space Agency for its strides in advancing Kenya’s space ambitions and reiterated the commitment of DNSI to support and collaborate with KSA. He emphasized that both institutions serve a common national purpose and should synergize their efforts to enhance Kenya’s capabilities in space and defence.
On his part, Brig. Kipkosgey emphasized the crucial role that space technology plays in national development and security. He highlighted its applications in key sectors such as agriculture, environmental monitoring, urban planning, telecommunications, disaster response, education, climate change mitigation, transport, and national defence.
The visit marks a significant step in strengthening institutional collaboration between KSA and its parent ministry of Defence (MoD) through DNSI for future engagements focusing on joint projects, knowledge sharing, and the integration of space solutions to support national security and socio-economic growth.
