Prof. Dieter Bilitzer from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and a lecturer at George Mason University, Department of Astronomy and Computational Physics, visited the Kenya Space Agency to familiarize himself with the agency's advancements and applications in space weather.
One of his main purposes for the visit was also to plan for the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI), an international project sponsored by the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) Workshop scheduled to take place in Kilifi in 2024, focusing on improving the IRI model for space weather monitoring in Africa.
Professor Bilitzer delivered lectures on space research topics such as the ionosphere, satellite observations, and space weather at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Technical University of Kenya (TUK), and Pwani University, respectively.
