Kenya Space Agency and Elgeyo Marakwet County Partner to Leverage Space Technology for Sustainable Development

Today, 18th February 2025 ,the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) Director General, Brig Hillary Kipkosgey, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Wisley Rotich, Governor of Elgeyo Marakwet County, at his office in Iten. KSA and the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet are collaborating to harness space technology for decision-making in key areas such as spatial planning, agriculture, disaster management, water resource management, and environmental monitoring.

As part of this partnership, KSA will provide high-resolution satellite imagery to assist in the development of basemaps for the county's spatial plan. These maps will serve as critical tools for sustainable land use planning, resource allocation, and environmental conservation efforts.

The meeting was also attended by senior county officials, including Hon. Thomas Maiyo, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, Urban Development, and Energy; Hon. Edwin Kibor, CECM for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Irrigation; and Hon. Jason Lagat, CECM for Water, Environment, and Climate Change.

KSA remains committed in enhancing utilization of earth observation technologies across counties as well as government ministries, departments and agencies to support informed decision making.
