The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) concluded a successful week-long Draft Kenya Space Policy 2024 and the Draft Kenya Space Bill 2024 public participation, comments and recommendations incorporation workshop held at Sawela Lodges, Naivasha from 2nd to 6th December 2024 . This critical engagement brought together key stakeholders to discuss and deliberate on the comments and views from public memoranda on the legislative framework which is poised to promote, coordinate and regulate orderly development and conduct of space activities in the Republic of Kenya.
The Agency aligned the frameworks with international space law envisioned to enhance consistency, predictability and practical regulatory system that fosters regional and international cooperation and collaboration.
The key elements considered in the Draft Kenya Space Bill include Scope of Application; Authorisation, Licensing and Continued Supervision of space activities; Registration of Space Objects; Safety, Transfer of Ownership, Liability and Insurance.
Present during the workshop were members of the KSA Board, the Ag, Director General/CEO KSA Brig Hillary Kipkosgey, representatives from various organizations amongst them the Office of Attorney General, Ministry of Defence, Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Communications Authority of Kenya, Kenya Law Reform Commission, National Land Commission, Kenya Meteorological Department, Academia and the private sector.
By incorporating feedback from stakeholders and the public, the Draft Space Bill 2024 reflects both global best practices and Kenya's space ambitions.
