Celebrating the AEOC 2025 Winners: Ten Years of Innovation in Earth Observation

The Africa Earth Observation Challenge (AEOC) 2025 has officially announced its winners, marking a special milestone—ten years of supporting and celebrating new ideas that use space and satellite technology to help solve real problems across the continent.

This year’s winners were crowned during a colourful Gala Dinner held in Nairobi. Each finalist impressed the judges with their creativity, innovations, and strong potential to make a positive impact on communities. Their solutions show how Earth Observation (EO) data—information gathered from satellites—can be used to improve farming, protect the environment, and support development across Africa.

First Place: Brian Amani – Antugrow
Brian Amani’s project, Antugrow, took the top prize for its powerful support to smallholder farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa. Antugrow uses artificial intelligence to give farmers real-time crop information, detect diseases early, and provide important agronomic insights. It also links farmers to financial opportunities, helping them increase productivity and become more resilient, especially during tough climate conditions.

Second Place: Mariagoreth Abel Kalimanzila – Rada 360 Limited
In second place is Rada 360, led by Mariagoreth Abel Kalimanzila. This innovation uses satellite data to support precision agriculture. It gives farmers and institutions up-to-date information on crop health, allows early detection of stress, and provides guidance that helps strengthen food security and climate resilience. Rada 360 is helping farmers make smarter decisions based on clear, science-backed insights.

Third Place: Jean Claude Akarikumutima – Faminga
Faminga, led by Jean Claude Akarikumutima, earned third place for its blend of IoT (Internet of Things), artificial intelligence, and satellite imagery. This smart combination offers farmers easy-to-use precision farming tools. By helping increase crop yields and encouraging sustainable farming practices, Faminga is making high-quality agricultural technology more accessible to local communities.

This year’s group of finalists showed just how powerful EO technology can be. Their solutions are helping communities across Africa manage land better, improve farming, adapt to climate change, and use resources more wisely.

We congratulate the 2025 AEOC winners and also celebrate all the finalists who presented their inspiring ideas. Their hard work is shaping the future of innovation and proving that African-led solutions can drive real and lasting change.
