Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation - Kenya, led a high-level familiarisation tour of the Luigi Broglio Malindi Space Centre (LBMSC), accompanied by Italy’s Minister for Universities and Research, Hon. Anna Maria Bernini; the President of the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (Italian Space Agency), Teodoro Valente; the Director General of the Kenya Space Agency (KSA), Brig. Hillary Kipkosgey; the CEO of the National Research Fund Kenya (NRF), Prof. Dickson Andala; the Chair of Vision 2030, Dr. Emmanuel Kombe; the Speaker of the County Government of Kilifi County Assembly, Catherine Kenga; and a representative of the Governor of Kilifi County.
The visit underscored the strategic role that LBMSC plays in advancing space science, technology, and innovation for Kenya and the region. During the tour, the PS emphasized that the socialization of science is critical in advancing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation (BETA) Agenda, noting that science and innovation must be integrated into society to drive inclusive development.
The delegation highlighted the importance of strengthening synergies among government institutions, research bodies, academia, and local communities to create a win–win framework that supports innovation, national development, and sustainable growth.
The familiarisation tour comes ahead of the Italy–Africa Meeting scheduled to be held at the Centre, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Africa–Italy collaboration in space science, technology, and innovation.
