The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) hosted Hon Soipan Tuya, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Defence (Kenya) and Hon. Senator Adolfo Urso, the Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy, at Luigi Broglio-Malindi Space Centre for a Joint Council of Ministers meeting. The meeting of the supreme organ providing oversight on implementation of the bilateral agreement between Kenya and Italy on Luigi Broglio-Malindi Space Centre was attended by other dignitaries and signified strengthening of the partnership between the two nations. The two Ministers appreciated the positive progress made in implementation of key priorities for both countries and approved joint projects for implementation at the facility for the benefit of Kenya and Africa.
Following the Council meeting, the delegations visited key areas of the facility, including the Remote Sensing Centre (Centre for Earth Observation), the Training and Education Centre, and the Operations Control Centre. The Ministers then inaugurated a Space Museum, among the first in Africa, located within the Malindi Space Centre that celebrates the history of the facility and the life of Prof Luigi Broglio, the founding father of the San Marco project.
This milestone underscores the strategic significance of the Centre and the space economy in Kenya's national development agenda, and the pivotal role the museum will play in educating the public on the importance of space science, and the history of space exploration in Kenya. The events at the Luigi Broglio-Malindi Space Centre are a testament of Kenya's determination to be a leader in space exploration and exploitation in Africa, while leveraging partnerships with global institutions to deliver benefits for the country and the continent.
